Ho Ho Ho and a Merry Sportsmas to all you cheap seaters out there! This is my first ever time putting one of our Cheering From the Cheap Seats episodes into blog form and I’m super excited to finally be able to.
For 3 years running now, we over at Cheering From the Cheap Seats have held our annual Sportsmas episode in which both Adam and I make a Christmas list of what we would like Santa to bring for our favorite sports teams. Without further ado let’s get into what each of us asked Santa for this year (remember, we can only use a championship for one of our teams):
NFL:
Adam – Carolina Panthers
This year for Christmas, Adam said that for his Carolina Panthers, he wants their owner David Tepper to take a step back from the team and stop meddling in the affairs of the team. He wants Tepper to do owner stuff and for him to allow his football people to do football stuff.
Nick – Washington Commanders
This year for Christmas for his Washington Commanders, Nick wants the Commanders to get both a new coaching staff (meaning he wants Ron Rivera gone) and a whole new offensive line so the team and fans can actually see what kind of quarterback Sam Howell actually is.
MLB:
Adam – Atlanta Braves
For Christmas this year, Adam didn’t want just something for his Atlanta Braves. He used his pick for both him and Nick. For this year, Adam wants a Braves vs. Orioles World Series. He wants to see his favorite team and Nick’s favorite team match-up in the baseball’s biggest series.
Nick – Baltimore Orioles
For Christmas this year, Nick wants his Baltimore Orioles to get new ownership. He wants the Angelos family to sell the team so someone that actually wants to open their purse can buy the team and bring in the talent needed to get the Orioles over the hump.
NCAA Football:
Adam – Western Carolina Catamounts
For Christmas this year, Adam wants his Western Carolina Catamounts to make the FCS Playoffs. In their whole existence, WCU has only made the playoffs one time (1983) and they were very close to making it this past season. That has given Adam the itch to see his Catamounts actually appear in the playoffs.
Adam – Wake Forest Demon Deacons
For those that don’t know, Adam is also a Wake Forest fan since he is from Winston-Salem, NC. For Christmas this year, Adam just wants to see Wake Forest make it to a decent bowl game. He doesn’t necessarily wants a New Year’s 6 Bowl, but anything 8-9 wins can get them.
Nick – East Carolina Pirates
For Christmas this year, Nick wants his East Carolina Pirates to make a move to the Sun Belt Conference. With the AAC losing almost all of its top-tier programs and bringing in lesser talented schools, Nick thinks it is best for ECU to join the Sun Belt so they can at least have regional rivalries with Appalachian State, James Madison, Coastal Carolina and others.
NCAA Basketball;
Adam – Western Carolina Catamounts
For Christmas this year, Adam wants his WCU Catamounts basketball team to make the NCAA tournament. They have only been one time in their history (1996). He just wants to be able to root on his Cats in the tournament even if they go out in the 1st Round.
Adam – Wake Forest Demon Deacons
For Christmas this year, Adam wants the same thing wanted in 2022 for the Demon Deacons. He wants them to make run in the NCAA tournament. He doesn’t really ever expect them to win the title, but would at least like a Sweet 16 run.
Nick – East Carolina Pirates
For Christmas this year, Nick would also like to see his ECU Pirates make the NCAA tournament. ECU has only been to the NCAA tournament twice in their history and have not been since 1993. He would just like to have on NCAA tournament game to cheer them on.
MLS/Soccer:
Adam – Charlotte FC
For Christmas this year, Adam would like to see Charlotte FC build on their 2022 where they actually made the playoffs and make a MLS Cup run. As mentioned, Charlotte FC made the playoffs, but as middling Wild Card team. He wants to see them as a higher seed with a good chance at actually winning the cup.
Adam – Chelsea F.C.
Adam also wanted to mention his favorite Premiere League team Chelsea F.C. For Chelsea, he just wants them to get back to their winning ways. Sitting in the middle of the Premiere League rankings doesn’t sit well with him because he believes they are a whole lot better than that.
Nick – Charlotte FC
For Christmas, Nick wants to see Charlotte FC get rid of David Tepper. With 3 head coaches in the last 3 years and one of them getting fired after taking them to the playoffs, Nick believes that Charlotte FC isn’t going to get anywhere with Tepper being as impatient as he is.
NBA:
Adam – Charlotte Hornets
For Christmas this year, Adam wants to see the Hornets bring in talent to surround LaMelo Ball. LaMelo is one of the best young players playing in the NBA right now, but it seems like the Hornets don’t want to bring in any talent to help him and help make the team better. Adam wants that to change.
Nick – Charlotte Hornets
For Christmas this year, Nick wants the same thing for the Hornets that Adam does. He wants talent. He wants to see the Hornets ownership invest in the team and make it better and maybe start making the playoffs on a regular basis.
NHL:
Adam – Carolina Hurricanes
For Christmas this year, Adam wants to Santa to bring the Carolina Hurricanes a Stanley Cup championship! This is the championship that Adam decided to use this year. The Hurricanes have been very close to winning one the last couple of years, but have not been able to get over the hump. This would give them their first championship since 2006-07.
Nick – Carolina Hurricanes
For Christmas this year, Nick wants the Hurricanes to have continued success. As a fan, it is nice having a team that you expect to make the playoffs year in and year out. Nick wants to see that continue for the Hurricanes and hopefully get over the hump eventually.
Miscellaneous:
Adam – F1 Racing
For Christmas, Adam wants to see F1 Racing be competitive again. He wants to see the season come down to the wire and not be decided with weeks to go.
Adam – Wrestling
For Christmas for professional wrestling, Adam’s biggest wish is that is favorite wrestler CM Punk gets a World Title reign or gets used in a great storyline. Adam is excited to have Punk back in WWE and wants to see him utilized properly.
Nick – Wrestling/UFC
For Christmas for both professional wrestling and UFC, Nick put down a wish for himself. He wants to find time to watch wrestling and UFC more this year. Not having a whole lot of time lately to watch these two things, he wants to find time next year to watch more of both.
Nick – East Carolina Pirates baseball
For Christmas this year, Nick wanted to use his championship pick for his ECU Pirates baseball team. He wants to see ECU finally break through and win a College World Series next season.
